Welcome aboard your flight to Spicemas 2025, on the island of Grenada, (in the Caribbean). Please ensure your seatbelt is securely fastened, your seatback is in the upright position, and your prior perceptions are stowed.
Soon as the plane touch down – we Jabbing!
Upon arrival, you are now deemed a Jab, for you will experience that which will change you.
I recommend reviewing First timer’s guide to J’ouvert in Grenada. Also, some themes will be repeated here, as mentioned in The Energy of Spicemas 2024: Highlights and Insights. The biggest tip however, is to start planning earlier. Spicemas 2025 caught many off-guard and unprepared for the showcase that would be presented.
What a show! Spicemas 2025 was EPIC!
Flight Mode
Standing ovation to ALL of the visionaries of Spicemas 2025! Everyone that prepared ahead to display their creations. The Energy was electric! Joy overflowed! Our neighbours coming to celebrate with us (L.I.T.T. – Life in the Tropics), as well as our diasporan-family. Pure joy in Pure Grenada!
This year has had a bit of pausing and zooming out for me, and with that I spectated Spicemas more than I have in recent times (Partially felt like my Spicemas bad decision but alas 🥲). There has been so much growth, and maturity to this product. Were you at, or did you watch, Bacchanal Friday!? Jouvert? The fetes? The boatrides? The music? The presentations? Pretty Mas?
Spicemas was brilliant! There were colours and vibrancy and splendor on display!
Typically, I am very present in Spicemas. You do not find me standing being pretty – I play mas! I wave my rag, chant the soca and dance to almost every riddim. So honestly some of the spectating was painful 😅. I would’ve much rather preferred to be amidst it all, but I needed to see through different lenses. Renewed focus. I was so proud to be Grenadian, to have invested my time and energy to this masterpiece.
God bless us all – heads, hearts and hands, ever conscious of God, we aspire, build and advance, as one people!
Let’s please acknowledge some entities in a special way, the visionaries behind Spicemas 2025.
The Spicemas Corporation (SMC) firstly as the main orchestrators of the product that is Spicemas. An event mainly occurring within Emancipation Month – August. All the joint creators must be acknowledged and those involved in the stage production of Spicemas.
The Royal Grenada Police Force (RGPF) was present and active. The roads’ congestions and their remedies were evident. This was noted more than prior years and must be recognized.
The Grenada Tourism Authority (GTA) for leading the education and visability of Spicemas. Utilizing our local resources in the process. Regional influencers and appreciators of Afro-Caribbean culture was a lovely touch.
The Producers and Artistes that shape the sound of Spicemas. We heard and saw productions in 2025! Bacchanal Friday – highest showcase annually of musical art in Grenada. The production of Bacchanal Friday also includes many players that should be recognized in a special way. What a show! The videographers, editor, songwriters, musician, sound engineers and everyone involved must be commended.
The Promoters – there was so many events wonderfully adorned and curated to host Spicemas Joy – Grenadian Joy. It was great to see events from 2024 returning and the emergence of new events that provided amazing vibes. The fetes and boatrides well done!
The Mas bands were a kaleidoscope of pretty! The craftsmanship of the costumes, the collective beauty on display. A total transformation that is experienced once a year – it was a wonderful sight, and truly hope that all involved celebrate that vision come through.
All Participants of various competitions, who gave their best performance, must be recognized. To all the winners, a huge congratulations on excellent work. Congratulations all.
Once again, The Unsung Heroes – the persons that labour in all aspects to ensure that Spicemas overall is wonderful. The persons that embrace the collective joy and positively contribute to that energy. Congratulations to you all. Thank you for your patience and hardwork, your care in all that was done. Truly appreciated.
Spicemas begins from the moment SMC launches the season and for everyone from that launch, that contributed to the collective joyous energy in Grenada for Spicemas 2025, Thank you. The Patrons and Spectators alike. To our locals that have positively done their part from the launch of the season, Thank you and to those around the world that came to share in the experience – Thank you.
Turbulence
The seatbelt symbol has been switched on, as we did experience some turbulence. We do apologize for those. We are a maturing country that is working diligently to advance as one people.
Telecommunication and Transportation infrastructure posed their share of challenges for both locals and visitors. Price gouging also seemed apparent with taxi services and vendors and may be an opportunity for the Taxi Association to agree upon rates, and devise a strategy for managing the heavy season. Taxi meters could also aid in this upgrade.
Flights and accommodation were also challenges (We want all, to get both flight and accommodation, in the future). The emergence of fake tickets for events, was unwelcome. The prominence of untraditional expressions in the name of JabJab, also disheartening. We do acknowledge that our modern culture needs nurturing to ensure tradition continues. These are our opportunities to improve that we have noted.
Landing
Cabin crew prepare for Landing. The excitement has lowered and we cycle into our period of calm as a country. We wish all our ambassadors that start their onward connections of Labour Day, NottingHill Carnival, Miami Carnival, Ubersoca Cruise and more, our best as they represent us all.
